The third in a set of digital paintings, Vital follows the Liquids and Metaplastic series. Melding science and aesthetics, the Vital series provides an experience of immediacy and the sensuous gratification of unconscious desires enacted upon the vibrancy and intensity of nature's creatures and forms.

Using more intimate compositions and a more monochromatic color scheme, these images get at what is most essential; distilling shape and detail, I try to evoke the vital moment when we are simultaneously at one with nature, yet detached in awe. It is in this breathless, tantalizing space that we are captivated and won over, our visceral reactions overriding the sociopolitical chatter of the mind.

Once seduced, we return to a gestational period of reflection and contemplation, regaining our conscious possession of reality. However normal life may seem after, the vitality continues, coloring our days in memory and fantasy. The images remind us that we are alive, and in this series, I hope to recall the awe, allow the forces of light and growth to take hold again and again in novel ways each time.
