organics

I bring to my work a deep spiritual love of nature, acknowledging that the most beautiful things already exist in the natural world. These forms are perceived through the complexity of human sentience and psychology, with our unique desires, memories, projections, and beliefs. I place my art in the midst of these sensations, painting passionate, immediate and ephemeral impressions to create a sensual experience of nature, guided by an intellectual view of sensation, biology and philosophical presence. I paint to capture the very feelings we can't describe, those found in the fragile curve of rose petals or the intimate arcs of moon snail shells, giving access to the poetry of the moment.

Paul Gauguin said, "Art is an abstraction - derive it from nature by dreaming in its presence." It is in this dreaming that I find my voice. I do not directly represent organic forms, though I clearly reference the human body, flowers and plants, seashells and other sensuous, tantalizing natural objects or beings. I describe them in paint as I have experienced them -- in a fluid, continuous, and evocative way, augmented by my understanding of organic life. I hope my work will let others understand and enjoy the nature I have seen, dreamed and loved.
