First among several series of digital paintings, I began the Liquids set as if navigating by inner constellations -- I allowed my hands to manipulate favorite digital photographs of mine in an unconscious, impulsive way, pulling colors apart, smoothing, and layering the tangible and identifiable image into an ephemeral abstraction recognizable only as an element of my own thought-terrain.

The resulting images, bright and swirling with dramatic arcs and intricate twists of colors forming detail, become landscapes of the psyche, portraits of the projection of desire onto form. The Liquids represent a fantasy of ultimate malleability and autonomy -- quite literally demonstrating what can happen if we have the power to make the world into anything we want.
